I’m frustrated right now. Actually, I take that back. I’m down right fucking cranky. I know I’ve complained about my finances on here before, but I’m doing it again. I’m not as “in a funk” as I have been in the past. For some reason, I am finally angry. I am angry at my creditors for accepting a payment plan over the phone, lowering my interest rate and payment and then NOT adhering to the plan THEY accepted.
My first response is to go to a Credit Counseling Service, so THEY can deal with these people. However, my 12 step program teaches me it’s MY responsibility. That means *I* have to call them. I don’t want to. I do not want to call them.
I want them all to go to hell in a hand basket. I want them to stop calling me. I want them to leave me the fuck alone.
I’ve TRIED to set up shit with them and they accept it over the phone and then back out of it later. I catch up one month and then since they don’t accept my “lower” payment (you know the one where they AGREED to take it) and tack on a few more late fees and over limit fees. Are you fucking kidding me?
So instead of just running out and contacting a consumer credit service, I called my sponsor. I knew in my heart what he would say. I knew it. I knew contacting the credit debt service would be nixed in the bud before I even got to it. *le sigh*
Now I get to figure shit out, figure which ones are not doing what they said they would do and then call them again.
DO.NOT.WANT. I do not want to. I will though. I’ve been told it’s the “adult” thing to do. I’ve been told it’s the “responsible” thing to do. Fuck that. Fuck being an adult. Fuck being responsible.
On that note, I have to go be an adult now. TTFN
Until next time…

Sometimes the adult thing to do is hire someone else to do the shit you either can’t do yourself, don’t have the time to do yourself, or would rather not do yourself.
Much like me and anything related to car maintenance.
I could change my own oil, but it will only make me frustrated and covered in oil. It will also take me three hours and multiple trips to the auto parts store.
(I know it should be easier than that, but give me a break, I am a gay guy who doesn’t care about anything mechanical.)
I know you’re in a program and all that, but uh… yeah… I would definitely sign up for the “delegate” idea.

Being an adult / taking responsibility doesn’t mean put the weight of the world on your shoulders and crumble under it. You can take responsibility for the situation by dealing with it in a way that gets it resolved. As jester said, he could change his oil, but let the pros do it. Did he act responsibly? Yes. Did he take responsibility for his vehicle and its maintenance? He sure did.
Give it to a credit counselor, pay one bill, and call it a day. You have to remember that you not only have a responsibility to your bills and finances, but to your mental health, and stressing out and getting angry isn’t good for that, either.

I don’t understand why seeking the help of a professional consumer credit counseling service isn’t acceptable to your sponsor. You still have to pay the bill. They have the ability (and power?) to get the credit card companies to actually do what they said they would do. (accept the smaller payment, stop the interest rates etc.)
I think financially it is the responsible thing to do, you are not taking the easy way out, you are showing responsibility for your actions. And you’ve worked so hard to get your credit to a good level, don’t destroy it now.
I’m sorry, but I think your sponsor is mis-informed as to how a credit counseling service works.

I agree with Fantasagirl. I don’t see anything unadult by using resources, especially if you’re at your wits end with the company.
I have seen how credit card companies have taken advantage of my mom because she’s elderly, it totally changed how I see them.
They have 1 purpose: to make money!
Whether it’s by you buying things, or you paying late fees, they want to separate you from your money.
It sounds like they aren’t playing fair & perhaps it’s time to seek CCC. You are still being responsible, you’re paying the bill!
Right now I’m really surprised they’re jerking you around cuz so many people are in dire straits. They’ve been talking on the radio out here that credit cards are where the bottom is gonna fall out from next. I’d think they’d be happy to accept any payment plan.
Breathe. Remember to breathe.

Thank you everyone. I’m planning on contacting a counseling service this week.
While I believe this person’s heart was in the right place, it seems some people in GA are stuck in their disease and think everyone else is too.
