I’ve been thinking about friendships a lot lately. Since I moved here, I’ve been really evaluating those friendships I have in my life. I have been very alone and sometimes (most of the time) very lonely here in the Ville. No fault of anyone’s really. I’m not working yet and that isolates me quite a bit. I’m working on all of it and I’m actually NOT feeling sorry for myself at this moment. Which is a good thing!

OK, back to what I was saying. Friendships. What do you look for in a friend? I made a list of what I look for. The person who becomes my friend has to have 90%, if not all, of these qualities or I will only consider them “someone I know.”

• Honesty and the ability to tell me what they think
• Compassion ~ when telling me what you think, do it with compassion
• Integrity ~ doing the right thing even when no one is looking is important.
• Courage to do and say things some people might not
• Sense of humor. You must make me laugh. Period.
• Inspirational. I hope that as friends we can inspire each other to do things bigger and better than we have before
• Encouragement. Encourage me to do the right thing; as I will for you
• Do not judge me harshly when I make mistakes
• Be there for me no matter what I do or say
• If we disagree, be willing to discuss it and work it out
• Don’t be mean just to be mean
• Don’t be so egotistical that you can’t see your own flaws (cause I hate to burst your bubble, we ALL have flaws)
• Let me know you care by being there for me, listening to me cry, whine and complain, while at the same time as laughing with me in the good times
• Have my back no matter what. Whether you agree with what I did or said, your support is important to me
• Don’t be a hypocrite and tell me you feel something was wrong that I did and turn around and do the exact same thing and expect me to NOT call you a fucking hypocrite
• Communicate, communicate, communicate.

I’m sure if I wasn’t so cold right now and shivering my ass off, I’d think of tons of other brilliant and cool things to add to that list.  But right now, I must go figure out how to warm my hands and feet cause they are so cold it’s hurting me.  And I’m a wimp when it comes to pain.
