Emotional day already

Here’s how my day started:

I got to the lab at 6:45 this morning and could not get in the building. My proxy access card was NOT working on the front door. I stood there dumbfounded for several seconds and then started hitting the doorbell.

My office is located in the front office area. I can’t go anywhere in this building without that access card. Someone finally happened to walk up to the front office area and heard me ringing the bell. Poor girl got an ear ful, cause I knew in my gut what had happened.

I got to my desk and called our Facilities section. Turns out some fuckstick removed me from the system completely on Friday. OK, hello? My last day is not until the 13th, why would she remove me? The chick on the phone said cause an email had gone out and they automatically do that when they get emails.

These were my exact words “Did whoever removed me from the system bother to look at the fucking date of my resignation/retirement? She would have known it’s not until the 13th. Put me back in the system, right now while I’m on the phone with you.”

I think I made her nervous. Can’t imagine why. She spent a good 10 minutes on the phone with me trying to re-enter me into the system. She couldn’t do it so had to save it for the girl who comes in at 7:30. At this point it’s 7:05. I huff and puff, but say OK, I’ll be calling at exactly 7:40 to make sure it’s fixed.

7:40 comes around and I call Facilities to check. They just BARELY got it fixed, I go to check while she’s on the phone with me. I thank her and tell her to have a nice day.

8:40 am comes along, my boss calls me and tells me he’s been in a car accident. He was rearended on his way to work. Asks me to call the chain of command to let them know, so I start making those phone calls. My boss calls me back a few minutes later and tells me they are transporting him cause he hurt his back. Yikes! We hang up and then I realize “Oh CRAP! WHERE are they transporting him?” We have lots of hospitals in this town.

I call dispatch, get the information of where he’s being taken. I call his wife, I call our chain of command. I field tons of phone calls as people throughout the department find out about his accident.

I get an email from the apartment complex, letting me know what my new address is going to be and exactly what my deposit will be. WOOHOOO! This is exciting to me! As I’m responding to the girl at the complex, I get an email from the Louisville Metro Police personnel section that they are conducting a “typing” test on 9/18/07 and want me there. The minimum speed required is 25 words per minute. I type at least 90 wpm, which leads me to believe I could be a little “over” qualified for this position.

I email the personnel lady back and ask her if it’s possible for me to go to a temp agency here in Vegas, take the typing test, get a certificate and either fax it or email it to her. I have yet to get a response. In that same email, I told her that if me going to Manpower is NOT possible, I would like to sign up for the 11am session of the test. We’ll see what she says.

In the meantime, I contacted Miss Laci to see if I could crash on her futon, if I do end up having to come out there. Also started thinking that if I DO go down there next week, I’ll be able to hand deliver my deposit to the apartment complex and drive around the area to get familiar with it. WOOT!

I went to the hospital on my lunch hour to see my boss and they were just discharging him and he’s home now and resting. He’s in a lot of pain and can barely walk. I’m glad he’s going to be OK and I cried. I cried because this is my last week here and I wanted to be able to have as much time with him in the office as possible. I told this to his wife and started crying and then she started crying. LOL We are such a crying group of people, she and I.

I’ll be stopping by their house tonight on my way home from work, I’m going to take him his laptop and his car keys.

And on that note, I’m going to go finish my day out and try not to cry anymore.

Until next time….

  • You have had a craptastic day, Soda! I’m glad that idiot girl put you back in the system. I hate when people don’t READ! I’m glad your boss is going to be okay and hope he’s back in tip-top shape in no time.
